The Shot Lab Assistant position participates in the activities of the Shot Lab as directed by the Physician(s), or RN(s).
Responsibilities:
Identifies patients in Shot Lab module of PCIS.
Works with the clerical support team to identify any changes of demographic or insurance information as well as educate patients if there are any outstanding balances.
Locates appropriate vials.
Confirms patient identity, using full name and date of birth as identifiers.
Determines timeliness of patient visit and calculates appropriate dose.
Obtains peak flow, if applicable.
Records patient answers to the health questions prior to administering.
Administers allergen/venom injection(s).
Administers biologic medication(s).
Advises patient to wait 20 minutes.
Records information on flow sheet and in Shot Lab module.
Calculates/adjusts doses for modified rush.
Administers/records modified rush.
Obtains vital signs related to modified rush.
Recognizes systemic symptoms and manages systemic reactions appropriately.
Educates patients about all aspects of care and treatment.
Cleans and stocks Shot Lab.
Distributes medication samples, as appropriate.
Ensures that biohazard waste is packaged and retrieved appropriately.
Assist the Clinical Support team as needed for patient care.
Other duties as assigned.

Understands and abides by OSHA, HIPAA & CLIA standards.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school graduate or equivalent.
One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Medical Assistant Certification OR Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma with TN/GA- LPN License.
